Fuerteventura Family Holidays

It is very easy to see why Fuerteventura family holidays are popular on this Canary Island.  Fuerteventura has a reputation for being an excellent choice for families because of the types of accommodation available, the quality of accommodation and the facilities available for families. Accommodation is available on an all-inclusive basis, half-board,  bed and breakfast and self-catering, so there are plenty of options to choose from to suit the family’s needs.

Pristine beach in Corralejo

All the resorts on the island are child friendly, and there are only two or three hotels which are adults only.  Fuerteventura is a relatively quiet island compared to the other Canary Islands, and is not an island that attracts groups of young people or the 18-30’s types.  Fuerteventura is not a ‘clubbing’ island, so it attracts families and couple who are looking for a relaxing holiday in the sun, either round the swimming pool or at the beach.  Taxis have car seats available if you travel in one from the airport or around your resort.

Fuerteventura family holidays are mainly based in the four main resorts on the island.  These are Corralejo, Caleta de Fuste, Costa Calma and Jandia.  These four resorts offer the most for families, particularly sandy beaches and a range of leisure facilities.  Hotels have children’s swimming pools, kid’s clubs, organised activities during the day and mini-discos in the evening. A range of water sports are available in each resort.

Fuerteventura family holidays are usually based in Corralejo in the north of the island. Corralejo is about a 45 minute drive from the airport.  There is a whole range of family accommodation available, from 2 key rated apartments to a 5 star hotel.  The resort is family friendly and offers small, sandy beaches within the town, and the fabulous sand dunes just outside the resort. Restaurants and bars welcome children and have special children’s menus. Corralejo is the location for the island’s only water park, Acua Park.  Free coach transport is available daily to take you to Oasis Park Zoo in the south of the island.  Boat trips are available in the harbour to Los Lobos, a small island off the coast.  Ferries are leave here for Playa Blanca in Corralejo, and there are catamaran trips available too.  Hire shops can provide baby equipment that might be needed.  Bike hire is readily available.

Caleta de Fuste is the resort located closest to the airport in the middle of the east coast, and has a transfer time of just 10 minutes.  It is an ideal place for Fuerteventura family holidays. The family accommodation ranges from 2 key apartments to 5 star hotels.  Caleta de Fuste is family friendly and offers a safe, white sand beach.  In the resort there are several play parks and children are welcome in the bars and restaurants.  A free coach is available, every day, to Oasis Park Zoo in the south of the island. In the harbour it is possible to swim with sea lions, look around a pirate ship, feed the fish, go on a sea fishing trip and book a trip on a catamaran.  Pedaloes and canoes are also available to book by the hour.  There are two hire shops which rent out equipment for babies and small children.  Bike hire is also available.  Tuition for windsurfing and stand-up paddle is also available.

Costa Calma Beach

Costa Calma is another resort which is ideal for Fuerteventura family holidays, as it is a quiet resort where most of the facilities are hotel based.  This is the family location for people who want to spend most of their time around the swimming pool or on the long sandy beach.  Excursions can be booked in resort, and Oasis Park Zoo is just a 15 minute trip away.

lovely beach in Jandia

Fuerteventura family holidays are based in Jandia, which is a resort area in the south of the island, and has a transfer time of just over one hour from Fuerteventura airport.  The accommodation offered there ranges from apartments to 4 star hotels.  The resort fronts on to the wonderful sandy beach of Sotavento. A free coach service is available to the Oasis Park Zoo, every day.  Bike hire – 2 wheels and 4 wheels is available.  A submarine trip in the Subcat is available in the Morro Jable harbour.

Fuerteventura family holidays are very popular, as the island offers the opportunity for children to spend hours in the swimming pool and on the beach at any time of the year.  The most popular times of the year, obviously coincide with school holidays; but for anyone with small children and babies then the island can be visited at any time of the year.  Families usually go the resorts listed above, but there are quieter locations on the island which will still offer an excellent place for a family holiday.
